What Formats can be used inside the Configuration Tool? (Version 1.1)

1. TEXT
1.1. Non-Formatted

With "Non-Formatted" you will see exactly what you type.  It is NOT formatted in any particular way.

For this example, we will look at a field we've called "Location"

1. Select the FORMAT icon...

2. Under the TEXT category, find the one called "Non Formatted"

1.2. URL

(Uniform Resource Locator)

According to Wikipedia:  "A Uniform Resource Locator, colloquially termed a web address, is a reference to a web resource that specifies its location on a computer network and a mechanism for retrieving it. A URL is a specific type of Uniform Resource Identifier, although many people use the two terms interchangeably."

For this example of using URL, we will look for "Location" in the field(s)...

We selected "Location"

From our example of URLs applied to "Locations," you can see:

  • "Gilbert's Gallery" and "Bob Actions"
  • If you "Right-Click" on one of the Locations, you can then select the option to "Go to URL"

1.3. Account #

Using an "Account #" lets the system allow one (or more) "0's"  before (or after) numbers in your data...

 

For this example, we'll select "Location" as a way to use "Account #"

1.4. Phone #

A phone number is another selection you can choose...

For this example, we'll use "Location" as a Field, to have a category to place the phone number(s)

Locate and then select the "Phone #"

1.5. International Phone #

An "International Phone #" is another selection you can choose

In this example, we will select "Location" as a place to put the data from "International Phone #"

1.6. Zip Code

You can also select "Zip Code" as another format for your data

For this example, we will select the "Location" field as a place to put Zip Codes

Under the TEXT category, locate and select "Zip Code"

1.7. Postal Code

You can also select "Postal Code" as another format for your data

For this example, we will use "Location" as a field to put the "Postal Code" data

1.8. State

You can also select "State" as a format for your data

For this example, we will use "Location" as a field for organizing the "State" data

1.9. Image

You can also select "Image" as a format for your data

We'll start here...

For this example, we will find and select "Location" as a way to demonstrate the "Image" format...

Under the "TEXT" category, locate and select the "Image" format...

Just to further illustrate the example, we are going to add another "Location" field (to compare side-by-side) and see what the tool does with the "Image" format...

Here's where we select the "Location" field (again) just to demonstrate what is being changed with the different format...

To communicate more effectively, we're going to:

1. click on the part that says "Location"  

2. then TYPE the word "image" beside it

This will help keep it more organized (visually)...

Next, we will push the "play" button to "run" the changes that we've set up...

In our example, you can see the way that an "Image" format can be setup under the "Location" heading, and you can also see how the "Text" format for the Location heading also looks.

Notice that we do NOT have any actual images put in yet, but the place-holder is there for the images that you can put in to your data...

 

* Per Larry, it can also be useful to save a URL to an image (useful for blog posts)...

1.10. QR Code

QR Code is another Format that can be selected under the "TEXT" category...

To illustrate this Format, let's start by "Adding a Field"...

For this example, we will select "Location" from the Field categories...

Next, you will need to select the "Format" icon...

Under the "TEXT" category, you can locate and select the "QR Code" Format...

Here you can clearly see that the "QR Code" format is selected under the "Location"...

* Per Larry, the "QR Code" Format can be helpful to turn a webpage URL into a QR Code...

You can "scan" the "QR Code" with your smartphone and it will take you to the webpage.

1.11. HTML

HTML is another format that can be selected under the "TEXT" category...

For this example, we will select "Location" from the Field categories...

Next, you will need to select the "Format" icon...

Under the "TEXT" category, you can locate and select the "HTML" format...

2. NUMBER
2.1. Non Formatted

Under the "Number" category, one option for the format is called "Non Formatted"...

Select "Add a Field" to get started...

For this example, we are going to select "Visits" from our existing fields...

For this example, we are going to use "Visits" to demonstrate how to set up "Non Formatted" Numbers...

Click the "Format" icon...

Under the "NUMBER" category, you will need to locate and select "Non Formatted"...

2.2. Formatted

Under the "Number" category, one option for the format is called "Formatted"...

For this example, we will "Add a Field"...

For our example, we will pick "Visits" from our existing Fields...

2.3. Currency

Under the "Number" category, one option for the format is called "Currency"...

We will start the example by "Add a Field"...

For this example, we will select the "Amount" category to illustrate applying "Currency" to Numbers...

Under the NUMBER category, locate and select the "Currency" format...

As a way to visually explain the changes, I will do this a 2nd time... selecting "Amount" (again) to show the before/after changes...

Purely for example, we're going to use TWO "Amount" categories so you can easily see the difference :

1. add the word "currency" to the end of the 1st Amount field...

2. select  a "Non Formatted" NUMBER format for the 2nd Amount field (to compare them)...

3. add the word "default" to the end of the 2nd Amount field...

For our example, that we called "currency" and "default" (non formatted number), you can see the changes that have been applied by the system.

2.4. Percent

"Percent" is another NUMBER format that is available...

 

We will start this example by "Adding a Field"...

We will select "Amount" as a way to show this example...

2.5. Percent (No Rounding)

"Percent (No Rounding)" is another NUMBER format that is available...

 

We will start this example by "Adding a Field"... 

We will select "Amount" as a way to show this example...

2.6. Scientific Notation

"Scientific Notation" is another NUMBER format that is available...

 We will start this example by "Adding a Field"... 

We will select "Amount" as a way to show this example...

3. DATE
3.1. Date

"Date" is a format that is available under the "Date" category...

For this example, we will "Add a Field"...

We will scroll down to the "Date" field...

For this example, locate the DATE category, then select the "Date" format...

You can see the "Date" format result on the right side...  it defaults to Year-Month-Day (YYYY-MM-DD)

3.2. Date/Time

Under the Category of "DATE" there is a format called "Date/Time" that can be selected...

 

For this example, we will "Add a Field"...

You can see the "Date" format result on the right side...  it defaults to Year-Month-Day (YYYY-MM-DD)...    

The "Time" format can now been seen the far right of the date...

The default "Time" format is Hours-Minutes-Seconds (HH-MM-SS).

3.3. Time

Under the Category of "DATE" there is a format called "Time" that can be selected...

 

For this example, we will "Add a Field"...

We will use the "Date" field, for this example...

Q2 = Quarter 2 (April - June)

Q3 = Quarter 3 (July - September)

Q4 = Quarter 4 (October - December)

Under the Category of "DATE" there is a format called "Month" that can be selected...

4. SPARKLINE
4.1. LINE

We already have some data in our image, to illustrate the "Line" Format...

Notice the "Meals & Snacks" column...

There are numbers with COMMAS between them...

To see what the "Line" Format does, we will "Add a Field"...

We will find and select "Meals and Snacks" for our Field...

We can type the word "(Line)" beside the name of the Field, to make it easier to see what the Format is doing with the data...
